Describe your business:
I am a social media influencer and I mainly work with businesses.
Tell us about your self-employment journey.
I initially started posting videos about my career journey on TikTok to empower other business professionals. After my skits began to go viral, I shifted my focus to informative finance videos.
After just two weeks on TikTik, I gained 200K followers and have been posting on the app ever since. I now have over 2M followers across TikTok and Instagram.
My brand collaborations include partnerships with Wealthfront, Morning Brew, Digit, Yotta, Cointracker and more. I am working on expanding my digital footprint across all social platforms, including YouTube. I also plan on launching digital products and other businesses through my channels.
What area of your business are you most passionate about?
I am very passionate about creating videos and negotiating with brands.
What’s the most valuable thing you learned early in your career that has contributed to your success?
I learned how important it was to keep learning and that mindset has helped me get to where I am today.
How are you pivoting your business during the COVID-19 pandemic?
My social media business was built during COVID so I haven’t had to pivot because of the pandemic. I’ve become more innovative with my content creation, though, to keep growing.
What’s a recent project that you’ve worked on that you’re really excited about?
I am currently working on setting up my own website. I’ll offer coaching services as well as a digital subscription for my stock portfolio.
What advice would you give other self-employed people?
To keep going and just not stop. The business journey is comparable to how the Chinese Bamboo plant grows. It doesn’t grow at all for the first 4-5 years because the roots are being solidified, but once it emerges, it grows 80-100 feet in a month. You never know when you are going to hit that exponential growth phase so you have to keep pushing.
How has forming an S Corp helped you level up your business?
An S-Corp has helped me understand taxes – and helped me pay less!
