How did you land your first client?
I landed my first client organically through TikTok. The CEO of the startup started seeing my TikTok videos on their For You page (FYP) and loved how easily I was able to break down complex finance concepts.
They reached out through Instagram and onboarded me to create TikTok and Instagram reels for their social media channels!
What’s an actionable tip you’d give other self-employed people?
People want brands to be more human now more than ever. So much so that, according to a report by TrustRadius, “84% of consumers trust online peer reviews as much as recommendations from friends.”.
It’s important that companies who want to deeply connect with their customers incorporate User Generated Content (UGC) content. UGC content works because current and potential customers can see how real people (not staged actors) use a brand’s product or service.
You can connect with your customers on a more personal level if you choose content creators who look and sound like them, rather than a faceless brand trying to sell.
Consider working with UGC creators so you can save time and money in obtaining high quality, authentic content that speaks to your customers.
Outsource the process so you don’t have to worry about organizing, creating, and editing videos. Instead, you can focus your energy on managing your business.
Name a time where you failed – and how you recovered from it.
When I was just starting out and did not know the true value of content creation. Because I had no visibility into what the average price for similar services was, I was getting burnt out due to the amount of videos I had to create for the price I was accepting.
That’s when I decided to focus on a manageable amount of long-term clients who respect the work I do and the content I bring – without the burnout.
Tell us a major win you’re proud of.
I created a simple 25-second video explaining one component of trading. It went viral, garnering over 500K views and gaining 10-20K new followers for my client at the time.
I think the video went viral in part because of my ability to break down a complex, technical topic with a simple illustration and in a short amount of time.
My expertise is in making short videos that are simple and educational.
What made you join the Collective community?
I didn’t have the expertise to do bookkeeping, accounting, and taxes for my business. I also wanted to make sure that there was only one team I could consult with for these services, so I wouldn’t get overwhelmed.
