Tell us about your self-employment journey.
Being an entrepreneur was always a goal of mine so when I received a furlough notice from the company I was working for, that uncertainty became my catalyst. I was accustomed to the “churn-and-burn” of advertising agencies, and I knew there had to be a better way to grow revenue without the sacrifice of employee burnout.
The concept behind The Luxurist Method is just that – a better way for the industry to function. We center our digital marketing efforts around employee well-being, productivity, increased quality of work and millennial-driven passions.
If you can’t stop and smell the roses after working so hard to grow them, how will you remember they are even there?
What area of your business are you most passionate about?
Inspiring the growth of my team and client’s well-being through the centering of self-care (the method behind The Luxurist Method).
What’s the most valuable thing you learned early in your career that has contributed to your success?
Thanks to the prevalence of Hustle Culture, I thought burnout was inevitable. I was trained by agencies in a 60 hours a week work environment. I realized quickly that establishing a baseline of care for yourself and your own mental health is even more important than establishing that for employees.
How are you pivoting your business during the COVID-19 pandemic?
What has helped us to not only endure the pandemic but grow exponentially during it has been the structure of the company day-to-day. Our company runs on flexibility and reliability. Employees are given fully remote schedules with the ability to work the hours that work best for their lives. We value our culture over everything, which ensures our team is comfortable during times of uncertainty and allows for the growth of their productivity and careers.
What’s a recent project that you’ve worked on that you’re really excited about?
In order to meet client needs, I’ve had to shift to grow the organization. I’m currently working on the expansion of our team and client base. I’m excited to continue to watch the growth of our employees’ skills while working with new industries across SEO and Analytics. We have recently partnered with Enterprise-level companies in eCommerce Retail, Software as a service (SaaS), Pharmaceuticals, Food & Beverage, Home & Furniture, Construction and more!
What advice would you give other self-employed people?
When it comes to running your business even if you think you are a company of one, the key to success is realizing you don’t operate alone. Reach out to your network, and learn to teach or delegate. Asking for help is the best decision you’ll ever make for your mental health and your revenue.
When it comes to working with clients, dazzle them with excellence, not bullshit.
How has forming an S Corp helped you level up your business?
Becoming an S-Corp and working with Collective has helped contribute to our rapid growth. Being able to decrease our tax burden, while also protecting my personal assets and privacy has been the biggest weight off our shoulders as a new company!
